What is Net Libs?

Net Libs is a Java applet which generates stories from templates by filling in "holes" in the story with random words in various grammatical categories. Select a story template with the "Story template" choice box (or popup menu), then click "Generate Story". You can also supply your own words by choosing "Prompt for words" and then clicking "Generate Story".

See also "Mac Libs" (an advanced version for the Macintosh).

If you see two lines above with no applet running in between, your web browser is probably not Java enabled. Netscape Navigator 4.x or greater, or Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x or greater are recommended.

If you are using a Macintosh with Apple MRJ, you should upgrade to MRJ 2.0 or greater. You can download it at Apple's Java web site for free. Java is always installed in Mac OS X, but some browsers may require a plug-in.

In some cases, the story may go beyond the bottom of the text area, but the scroll bars are not active. This is a bug in some implementations of Java. The only workaround is to resize the browser window slightly to force the applet to update.

Also, you should have a choice of about a dozen or so story templates. If you find there are only a few choices, the file may have been corrupted during transfer. Try reloading the page, or going back to the home page and back here again.
