No worries, mate!

During my trip to Australia, I picked up an interesting little souvenir in Melbourne: an Australian Slang Generator. Basically, it has three cardboard wheels sandwiched between two layers of cardboard with small windows in them. As you turn the wheels from the edge, words appear in the windows. You create a three word phrase in plain English on one side, then flip it over to see the "dinki-di" Aussie translation. It's sort of like one of those foreign language verb conjugators.

This inspired me to write a small Java applet that does pretty much the same thing so I could share it with anyone who visits my web site. The graphics are scanned from the original cardboard gizmo.

To create an Aussie slang phrase, just choose three words from the popup menus and then click the "Translate" button. Enjoy!

If you see two lines above with no applet running in between, your web browser is probably not Java enabled. Netscape Navigator 3.0.1 or greater, or Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0.1 or greater are recommended.

If you are using a Macintosh with Apple MRJ, you should upgrade to MRJ 2.0 or greater (although 1.5 should also work). You can download it at Apple's Java web site for free.
